ASU DRUG RESISTANCE PROGRAM A REAL SUCCESS
The KIR program consists of four strategies: RESIST, EXPLAIN, AVOID and LEAVE. The experimental project was initially separated into three versions: Latino - Non-Latino and a mixed version. The focus was to learn if culture influences drug prevention. The project results indicate that culture strongly influences morals and values which in turn affect the choices students make about drug use. Teachers involved in the project recommend teaching these resistance strategies as early as 5th grade.
